Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 – 2 lbs. (750g-900g) chicken thighs, 5 chicken thighs
  • salt
  • ground black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 3 tablespoons dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 5 cloves garlic
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parley

Instructions

  • Season both sides of the chicken thighs with salt and ground black pepper.
  • Mix the honey, Dijon mustard, soy sauce, and chicken broth together. Stir to combine well.
  • Turn on the Instant Pot and set it to the Sauté mode. Once fully heated, add the olive oil to prevent the chicken from sticking. Pan-sear the chicken thighs, starting with the skin side down, until the skin is golden brown and the bottom is nicely browned.
  • Add the garlic to the pot, followed by the honey mustard mixture. Cover the lid, select Manual, and set to High Pressure for 10 minutes. When it beeps, turn to Quick Release. Once the valve drops, carefully remove the lid and add the chopped parsley. Switch to Sauté mode and reduce the sauce for 1 to 2 minutes if you prefer a thicker sauce. Serve with plain spaghetti or steamed rice.

Notes

If you don’t have an Instant Pot, you can make this Honey Mustard Chicken in a slow cooker, or on your stove top. If you use a slow cooker, make sure not to overcook it. Use high heat and cook for 3 hours. For stove top, just pan-fry the chicken and then add in the Sauce. Simmer on low heat and cook until the chicken meat is tender.

  1. Emily says:

Delicious! Thanks for the recipe! I used boneless skinless chicken breasts, set them aside after browning while I sautรฉed onions, shallots and mushrooms I needed to use up, along with the garlic. I might add a splash of white wine next time. And there WILL be a next time!

    1. Rasa Malaysia says:

Awesome Emily, I am so happy that you tried out this honey mustard chicken recipe on your Instant Pot.

  2. Tracey says:

If using a slow cooker, should I sautรฉs the thighs in a frying pan first? Thanks!

    1. Rasa Malaysia says:

Yes, you should, they will taste better!

  3. Emily Johnston says:

I made with 1.25lbs frozen boneless/skinless thighs, doubled the sauce recipe and did at high pressure for 12 minutes and it worked really well.

    1. Rasa Malaysia says:

  4. Rooters says:

Looks like a delicious recipe. Can I cook in my duo plus with 10 boneless thighs all at once, including sauce?

    1. Rasa Malaysia says:

Hi Rooters, I am not familiar with the duo plus but you can double my honey mustard chicken recipe.

I made this recipe last night with boneless, skinless chicken thighs and it was delicious! My husband also thought it was great. This will be one of my regularly used recipes. I sautรฉed 8 thighs in 2 batches in my instant pot, 2 minutes each side. Then I poured 1 1/2 recipes of the sauce on the thighs in the pot (I had prepared previously), and high pressure cooked 3 minutes. I took out the thighs and reduced the sauce and added 1/4 cup cream. The cream elevates a notch, but I will not use for โ€œregular dinnersโ€.

    1. Rasa Malaysia says:

Deborah, thanks for trying this Honey Mustard Chicken recipe!

  6. Diane says:

Are these boneless or bone-in chicken thighs?

    1. Rasa Malaysia says:

      Bone-in chicken thighs.

  7. Cynthia says:

I wonder about the nutritional information. This recipe says there is 5.4 g protein per serving. One of your similar recipes I believe itโ€™s the garlic honey chicken has same amount of chicken and it lists 50g Per serving.

    1. Rasa Malaysia says:

Cynthia, the label is generated by the website I used.

  9. Anna Risco says:

Hello! Was just wondering, can I sub chicken breasts instead of thighs? wanted to make this tonight but im broke and unfortunately only have breasts. and if so, will that affect the amount of ingredients or cooking time?

    1. Rasa Malaysia says:

Sure, you can use chicken breasts and increase to 12 minutes.

  10. Karen says:

It made these on top the stove a couple weeks ago and they were delicious!! have 3 large chicken breasts that are frozen but I want to make in my new insta pot ultra. Donโ€™t have time to thaw them. Is there anyway I could adjust the recipe to make it work?

    1. Rasa Malaysia says:

If you don’t thaw them they won’t be as nice, but I guess you can cook for 12 minutes or 15 minutes with double the sauce.
