Baked Chicken Recipe

This Honey Garlic Baked Chicken is one of the best baked chicken recipes you will ever make in an oven. I have made this recipe 3 times in the past week. It’s really that good!

Just look at the golden-skinned chicken thighs with the glistening honey garlic sauce, are you hungry?

How Do You Marinate The Chicken

Top down picture of baked chicken thighs with honey garlic marinade.

You don’t really have to marinate the chicken with my recipe. Just mix the following ingredients with the chicken and you will have the most amazing chicken dinner.

What’s more, the ingredients are everyday ingredients that you already have in your pantry.

  • Honey
  • Garlic
  • Olive Oil
  • Salt
  • Cayenne Pepper

See the recipe card for full information on ingredients.

How Long To Bake Chicken Thighs In The Oven

Closed up baked chicken thigh with golden honey garlic glaze sauce.

I used chicken thighs in this Honey Garlic Baked Chicken recipe. Because the chicken is coated with honey, I covered the chicken with aluminum foil before baking in the oven.

This is to avoid the chicken from burning on the skin but the inside remains raw.

I baked the chicken thighs for 30 minutes before removing the foil. By 30 minutes, the chicken would be completely cooked through.

Please take note that I used organic chicken thighs which are very small. If you have regular chicken thighs that are big, you have to bake them longer until they are cooked through.

Perfectly baked chicken thighs with golden brown skin, with honey and garlic.

The last 15 minutes is to brown the skin. Every oven is different so you want to check often to make sure the skin is not burned.

This recipe yields absolutely delicious, tender, juicy and moist baked chicken. The honey garlic sauce is epic; it tastes sweet, savory, garlicky and slightly heaty.

The sauce and the chicken are so good that you will want to sop up every bit of the sticky goodness, and the chicken are practically finger licking good.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 – 2 lbs (750-900g) chicken thighs
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 dashes cayenne pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Clean and rinse the chicken thighs, then pat them dry with paper towels. Score the bottom of the chicken thighs by cutting 3 slits across the meat. This will ensure that the honey garlic marinade penetrates the chicken.
    Chicken thigh
  • Transfer the chicken thighs to a baking pan. Add the olive oil to the chicken and coat it evenly. Rub the minced garlic onto the chicken, ensuring some of the garlic gets inside the slits of the meat.
  • Add the honey, salt, and cayenne pepper. Stir and mix well with the chicken. Cover the chicken with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
    Chicken thighs
  • Uncover the foil and continue to bake for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until the skin turns golden brown. Remove from the oven and serve immediately.

Notes

I used very small organic chicken thighs. If your chicken thighs are big, bake longer until they become golden brown like the pictures. You may check doneness of the chicken thighs by cutting a slit in the center of the chicken.

Great recipe! I did the Sous Vide with the chicken in the marinade for 3 hours at 160 and then hit the green egg over low direct heat to brown them up.

They turned out great. I used boned in thighs and added a touch of soy sauce. Will make again :)

  3. Rita says:

My family will not eat dark meat, although I love it. Iโ€™d have to use chicken breasts. Any suggestions?

Love the pan! Where did you find it?

      I forgot.

  6. Briana says:

Cooked for 30 mins covered in a preheated oven at 375ยฐ and uncovered now for 30 mins. Still pink and raw looking. ? Didnโ€™t know how long this would take!

    1. Rasa Malaysia says:

Bake uncovered until they turn brown. I had very small organic chicken thighs. You might need to bake longer.

I made this recipe last night and it was pretty good! However I opted for chicken breasts instead of thighs. The chicken is extremely delicious and juicy! However one thing I would recommend is marinating the chicken. I think it would be even more flavorful after being marinated because a lot of the garlic and seasoning did not stick to the chicken too well. I also added a little more garlic and cayenne pepper than required which made it more flavorful. But overall it is very easy, affordable, and delicious!

    1. Rasa Malaysia says:

Hi Jalaena, please take note that you used chicken breasts, which is more bland in flavors. Marinating is always good if you have time but for busy weeknights, use chicken thighs and follow my recipe method, the chicken will be packed full of flavors.

Trying out this recipe today with a few tweaks… Doubling the garlic, made 4 slits instead of 3, cooking it over a foil covered rack with knife piercings for fluid drainage, and increasing the covered time to 45 min and uncovered time to 30 or until crispy. Cooking it in a covection mini oven on turbo setting.

    1. Rasa Malaysia says:

      Sounds yummy!

  9. Z says:

The same thing happened to me! After 30 minutes at 375 it was still pink/purplish in color. I had to cook longer

    1. Rasa Malaysia says:

The recipe stated to bake the chicken for 45 minutes, 30 minutes with the foil covering the chicken, and 15 minutes after removing the foil.

  10. Suail says:

Do I have to cover every chicken separately with foil or do I cover the baking pan with foil?

    1. Rasa Malaysia says:

Cover the baking pan with foil.
