How Do You Marinate The Chicken

You don’t really have to marinate the chicken with my recipe. Just mix the following ingredients with the chicken and you will have the most amazing chicken dinner.

What’s more, the ingredients are everyday ingredients that you already have in your pantry.

  • Honey
  • Garlic
  • Olive Oil
  • Salt
  • Cayenne Pepper

How Long To Bake Chicken Thighs In The Oven

I used chicken thighs in this Honey Garlic Baked Chicken recipe. Because the chicken is coated with honey, I covered the chicken with aluminum foil before baking in the oven.

This is to avoid the chicken from burning on the skin but the inside remains raw.

I baked the chicken thighs for 30 minutes before removing the foil. By 30 minutes, the chicken would be completely cooked through.

Please take note that I used organic chicken thighs which are very small. If you have regular chicken thighs that are big, you have to bake them longer until they are cooked through.

The last 15 minutes is to brown the skin. Every oven is different so you want to check often to make sure the skin is not burned.

This recipe yields absolutely delicious, tender, juicy and moist baked chicken. The honey garlic sauce is epic; it tastes sweet, savory, garlicky and slightly heaty.

The sauce and the chicken are so good that you will want to sop up every bit of the sticky goodness, and the chicken are practically finger licking good.

Ingredients  

  • 1 1/2 – 2 lbs (750-900g) chicken thighs
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 dashes cayenne pepper

Instructions 

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Clean and rinse the chicken thighs, then pat them dry with paper towels. Score the bottom of the chicken thighs by cutting 3 slits across the meat. This will ensure that the honey garlic marinade penetrates the chicken.

  • Transfer the chicken thighs to a baking pan. Add the olive oil to the chicken and coat it evenly. Rub the minced garlic onto the chicken, ensuring some of the garlic gets inside the slits of the meat.
  • Add the honey, salt, and cayenne pepper. Stir and mix well with the chicken. Cover the chicken with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.

  • Uncover the foil and continue to bake for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until the skin turns golden brown. Remove from the oven and serve immediately.

Notes

I used very small organic chicken thighs. If your chicken thighs are big, bake longer until they become golden brown like the pictures. You may check doneness of the chicken thighs by cutting a slit in the center of the chicken.

      Hi Debbie, I am not washing to kill off germs or bacteria but the chicken packed in the US are always slimy in a slimy slippery liquid, that to me is absolutely disgusting. I want to eat good chicken and not chicken in slimy liquid. Julia Child washed all her raw chicken, so there. I grew up eating chicken that were washed before cooking, by my late mother, and we are all fine.

      A safer way to remove slime is to wipe it with a paper towel and throw the towel away. The only reason washing chicken is not recommended is because it could spread harmful bacteria to the sink and surrounding surfaces. Preparing food on the surrounding “contaminated” surfaces can, in fact, cause illness. That said, I still was my chicken carefully and then sanitize the sink and surrounding areas afterwards.

        Hi Zina, thanks for your explanation. I do not believe that washing chicken with water can cause any harm. Paper towels are infested with germs, too. If we can drink water from the tap, it’s totally fine to wash chicken, plus Julia Child washed all her chicken in her cookbook. My mom raised 7 kids and always wash chicken with water, and we never fall sick by eating chicken being washed with water.

          I think youโ€™ve actually missed the point… washing chicken spreads bacteria from the chicken to the sink and surrounding areas…. not bacteria from the water. The bacteria from the chicken are splashed around as the water gently splashes. The water is in no way harmful.

            Michele, I have never been sick and I came from a family where my mom washed the chicken and I do the same. Julia Child washed her chicken. I think people need to be chill about this topic. Either way, you won’t be sick. It’s my preference to wash my chicken and I will never change the habit, and bacteria is really not that scary. I came from a third world country and I have a much stronger immune system because we let our body does its job.

    Are you sure? Did you preheat the oven? Chicken shouldn’t be very very raw after baking for 30 minutes at 375 degree. It’s not even possible.

    I didn’t get the flavor or sauce described. Also didn’t get that rich golden color, either. I used raw honey. Should I have used regular grocery store processed honey? Any ideas?
